In an appeal posted on his Facebook page, the chief minister said the safety of the people was the government’s top priority, and it was closely monitoring the evolving situation and taking all necessary actions to safeguard lives and property. “Our state is currently facing relentless rainfall, triggering widespread landslides across multiple areas. In light of these hazardous conditions, I strongly urge everyone to prioritize safety above all else,” he said.

Golay advised the people to avoid any non-essential travel, venture near rivers, waterfalls or other vulnerable areas under any circumstances. “We also urge you to exercise extreme caution and stay informed…,” he added.

Sikkim IPR release adds: The torrential rainfall that has persisted over the past 72 hours has significantly impacted various areas within the Rangpo sub-division.

Landslide incidents have affected numerous areas as a result of the rains, particularly at 20th Mile and Bardang NH-10 where the continuously cascading heavy boulders, sludge, and debris from the hilltops have become serious concerns.

The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has commenced road clearance operations since yesterday.
