Bimal: Let Swamy not do politics by using GJM

The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung today maintained that the BJP leader BJP Subramanian Swamy should not make them the medium and do politics.

Gurung was speaking here on the side lines of their party program at Darjeeling referring to the tweet earlier this month by Swamy which maintained that he had met Gurung “for drafting a demand for an autonomous region of Gorkhaland within Bengal.”

The Morcha president said that Swamy might have spoken like this for his personal benefit and greed.
“We do not know what relationship he has with the Bengal government or central government, but he should not make us the medium and play politics. If needed, we will also write to him,” said Gurung adding that the Swamy’s tweet did not match with the agenda for which they had met him or the memorandum they had given him.

“We had met him as in the 2014-2015 seminar he had spoken on justice for the Gorkhas due to which we gave him a memorandum as Why Gorkhaland. If anyone wants, they can do an RTI and find out,” he said.

According to the Morcha president it was Swamy who had spoken on the issue of 6th schedule to which he had told him that it had been rejected by 60 to 65 percent people and that before that happened tribal status for 11 Gorkha communities was required.

The issue of Gurung meeting Swamy has made speculation rife in the Hills, with the Morcha chief also after returning from Delhi straightaway meeting the BJP Union Minister John Barla at his home in Dooars on Friday. Morcha leaders have on the other hand claimed that the “false tweet” made by Swamy signalled towards “something cooking”.
