As protests over the “foreigner tag” issue continues in Sikkim, the Hamro Party (HP) leader Ajoy Edwards today appealed to the people of Sikkim not to fight amongst each other as it would not benefit anyone.

The state of Sikkim has in the past few days has been witnessing clashes between supporters of political outfits along with some building also being vandalized over the issue.

In a press release Edwards making the appeal said that these were times to stay united. He said that it was sad that Sikkim Nepalese had been tagged as “foreigners” even though Sikkim had their own state which had upset not only the people of Darjeeling but our community living everywhere. He maintained that it was heart breaking to see infighting between brothers in the national media.

The press release stated that a similar situation like that of Sikkim had been faced by the people in Darjeeling during the 1986 agitation when more than 1,200 people had become martyrs.

Edwards maintained that as a smaller brother he requested that his suggestions were thought upon carefully. He added that they had already taken this path that they were taking now but it had only brought them loss. In the press release he said, at present the eyes of the whole world was looking at Sikkim and what they were doing in this time of difficulty. He asked them to work unitedly towards removing the accusations hurled on the community instead of fighting and blaming each other.
