The new terminal of Bagdogra Airport the work of which has already started is expected to be completed in 30 months. Raju Bista the Lok Sabha MP from Darjeeling who on Saturday visited the construction site to take stock of the progress of the work said "Ten percent of the work has already been completed and it would take 30 months to complete." After meeting the officials and engineers, the MP said "the work on the new terminal building and multi-level car parking is being done by experienced engineers." According to him, the new terminal will be completed by March 2027 and will be opened to the public. The construction is being done at the cost Rs 1528 crore and the construction started in August last year.

  Bagdogra Airport is the second busiest airport in West Bengal. This airport has been serving passengers from North Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Bihar and neighboring countries like Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh. Although not recognized as an international airport, this airport has been providing international services. Apart from domestic flights, the airport had once operated direct flight to Kathmandu and operates flights to Thailand.

On October 20 last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of the airport's new terminal through video conferencing. Bagdogra Airport is the only commercial airport for North Bengal, serving a large population.
