Sikkim’s Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) has welcomed what he called a “transformative and inclusive” union budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday. According to Tamang, the budget truly reflects the aspirations of the nation.
“This budget is a significant step towards a Vikshit Bharat, with a strong emphasis on GYAN (Garib, Youth, Annadata and Nari), aimed at empowering marginalized communities, nurturing youth potential, and generating ample employment opportunities. It also strengthens the vision of Make in India, promoting innovation, self-reliance, and the growth of indigenous industries,” Tamang said.
“The comprehensive initiatives outlined to stimulate economic growth and elevate social welfare demonstrate a profound commitment to the progress of our nation. Under the visionary leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, the Central Government’s unwavering dedication to building a people-centric economy and enhancing infrastructure will pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive future, all while advancing the Make in India initiative,” he added.
Sitharaman on Saturday presented her record 8th consecutive Union Budget amidst economic slowdown, aiming for tax cuts and growth.
This will take Sitharaman closer to the record of 10 budgets that were presented by former Prime Minister Morarji Desai over different time periods. Desai has presented a total of 6 budgets during his tenure as finance minister from 1959 to 1964, and 4 budgets between 1967 and 1969.
