Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for a Sikkim Bus Terminus, Health Care Centre and guest house at the SNT (Sikkim Nationalised Transport) complex on Hill Cart Road in Siliguri, West Bengal.

Thanking West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb for their cooperation in granting permission for the construction of the multi-storeyed building, Golay said the budget for the project, to be executed by Sikkim’s Building and Housing department, was Rs 197 Crore and that the construction would most likely be completed in 24 months’ time.

Once complete, the building will house all offices of the sikkim government departments presently operating in Siliguri, while separately, 50 rooms will be set aside for patients and their relatives visiting Siliguri for medical treatment. Also, the new complex will have guest rooms for VVIPs, VIPs and officials from the Himalayan state, along with staff quarters.

“While the target for completion of the building has been set for 36 months, we will try to complete the work within 24 months,” Golay said.

According to him, the complex will have VIP suites for the CM, ministers, judges, the governor and the common people alike, who can put up there at minimal cost.

The complex that will sprawl across the 2.1 acres of land owned by the SNT will also have a modern bus terminus and taxi parking facilities, along with restaurants and a shopping complex.

“We will also have doctors and nurses and a clinic in the building for the patients, while that part would be later handed over to the health department,” Golay told the gathering.
