Assam's first Gorkha IPS officer appointed chairman of Assam Public Service Commission

Assam's first Nepali-speaking Gorkha IPS officer has been appointed chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission. Retired Inspector General of Police (IGP) Debaraj Upadhyay was appointed to the position by the Assam government in a notification issued on Tuesday.
Notably, Debaraj Upadhyay, a resident of Tezpur, Sonitpur, Assam, retired from the post of the IGP in 2023. His wife Dr. Sharda Upadhyay is an Associate Professor and Head of Department of History at the Kaliabor College, Naugaon. His son Digvijay Bhardwaj is an advocate of the Gauhati High Court and his daughter is Devengana Bhardwaj.
Upadhyay was awarded the Indian President's Award for Meritorious Service and the Indian President's Award for Distinguished Service for his outstanding service during his service. He was also known as a very loyal and dutiful person during his service. After his appointment as the Chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission, congratulatory messages have been pouring in from various organizations and individuals.
