Sajjak Alam (25) the undertrial prisoner who had fled after shooting at two police personal on Wednesday evening in North Dinajpur district of West Bengal has been killed in police encounter.
He was shot dead at wee hour on Saturday at Kichaktala village under Goalpukar police station in North Dinajpur district.
Source said, Alam was hiding at a house in the village.
When police reached the spot, Alam and his accomplishes fired at police. In return, police also opened fire in which he was killed.
Alam had fled from the police custody when he was being taken back to Raiganj correctional home from Islampur court.
Arrested in 2019 on charges of murdering a man under Karandigi Police station, Alam was on Wednesday taken to the Islampur court from the Raiganj correctional home. As he was being taken back to Raiganj, Alam wanted to answer nature’s call and the police van stopped for a while.
Meanwhile he opened fire at police personnel and injured ASI Neel Kanti Sarkar and constable Deven Baisya and fled
Massive police force was mobilised to arrest Alam.
Police had claimed Alam got the revolver from which he opened fire at police, inside Islampur court lockup.
Police had announced a reward of Rs 2 Lakh for those informing about the whereabouts of Alam who was a resident of Karandigi.
Official quotes of police were not available immediately.
