Stating that Nepal and Bhutan are good friends of India, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai on Thursday heaped praises on the Sasashtra Seema Bal (SSB), which he said was doing a good job maintaining the friendly relations as well as safeguarding the international borders.
“Nepal and Bhutan are our friendly countries. SSB is maintaining good relations with them and protecting the border,” Rai said. Rai stopped by Panitanki on the India-Nepal border near Siliguri while on his say to Sikkim.
He also had lunch with SSB jawans at the Panitanki border and interacted with the jawans for some time.
“We have friendly relations with Nepal and Bhutan and SSB is doing very good work. SSB is not only protecting the border but also doing a lot of social work,” Rai said.
He was, however, silent on another international border, when asked by journalists to comment on the present situation in Bangladesh.
Rai is scheduled to stay in Sikkim for three days, while he will be engaging in various commitments in Gangtok and Pakyong districts.
Upon his arrival at the Rangpo Tourist Facilitation Centre, he was warmly welcomed by Additional Secretary, Home Department, Khemraj Sharma, Assistant Commandant, 13 Battalion ITBP, Mahender Singh; Deputy Director, Tourism Department, Sikkim, Sushma Pradhan; Protocol Officer, Home Department, DP Silal, along with officials from the IPR Department and Police officers, officials in Sikkim said.
